Pursuing Child Support Safely

For parents who have experienced family violence, the child support process may introduce safety concerns. OCSE shares these concerns. If you worry that receiving child support could put your or your children in danger from the other parent in your case, call the child support office assigned to your case immediately.

In many cases, steps can be taken to allow you to safely receive child support services and the financial support your children need. OCSE staff can explain the safeguards available to protect you and information about your home or work address and help you make the best decision for you and your family.

If you believe it is not possible for you receive child support services safely and your child support case was opened because you receive TEA cash assistance, Medicaid, or SNAP benefits, call your DHS or DWS office and ask about claiming “good cause.”
